Introduction

The 8v71 N engine enables a compression ratio of 18.7:1. The engine offers a power output of 318 horsepower, 237 kW at 2,100 RPM. It produces a maximum torque of 863 ft-lbs, 1170 Nm at 1,200 RPM.

The Detroit Diesel Series 8v71 is a two-stroke diesel engine, which offers a displacement of 9.3 litres, 567.5 cubic inches.

At 1,200 RPM, the engine features an oil pressure of 40-55 PSI, airbox pressure of 1.1 inches mercury, and a fuel pressure at cylinder head of 40-60 PSI.

At 2,100 RPM, the engine features an oil pressure of 50-70 PSI, airbox pressure of 5.5 inches mercury, and a fuel pressure at cylinder head of 40-60 PSI.

In order for the engine to function flawlessly, the ideal coolant temperature is 160 to 18 degrees Fahrenheit.  It is important that the lubricating oil temperature is maintained between 200- and 235-degrees Fahrenheit for any speed between 1,200 and 2,100 RPM.

Detroit 8v71 Engine Dimensions

The 8v71 Non-Turbo Engine is 47 inches in length, 39 inches in width, and 51 inches in height. It weighs a little higher than 2,300 lbs.

On the other hand, the 8v71 Turbo Engine is 50 inches in length, 40 inches in width, and 53 inches in height. It is on the heavier side owing to its larger dimensions and weighs a little less than 2,500 lbs.
